Battling Scotland got their Euro 2024 campaign back on track with a tension-filled 1-1 draw against Switzerland in Cologne. Scott McTominay’s shot in the 13th minute was deflected in by Swiss defender Fabian Schar. However, joy was replaced by despair in the 26th minute when Xherdan Shaqiri took advantage of an Anthony Ralston error to level with a world-class finish ensuring the spoils were shared.

Jamal Musiala scored again as Germany continued their winning start to Euro 2024 with victory over Hungary to become the first side through to the knockout stages. Germany extended their lead in the second half when former Manchester City player Ilkay Gundogan was left unmarked to slot comfortably past goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.

Albania scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to deny Croatia a victory that severely dents the 2018 World Cup finalists’ hopes of reaching the knockout stage of Euro 2024. In what was a chaotic but entertaining end to the game, the Albanians rescued a point when Klaus Gjasula side-footed home in the 95th minute to send their supporters wild.

Conceição strikes at the death for Portugal against Czech Republic

Francisco Conceicao scored a late winner as Portugal fought back from a goal down to beat Czech Republic in their Euro 2024 opener in Leipzig. The Czech Republic spent much of the game defending in their own half but stunned Portugal when Lukas Provod’s whipped second-half strike flew into the far corner. However their hopes of victory were dashed soon after as goalkeeper Jindrich Stanek parried Nuno Mendes’ header and the ball bounced off Robin Hranac and into the back of his own net.

Arda Güler inspires Turkey to victory over spirited Georgia

Teenager Arda Guler scored on his European Championship debut as Turkey broke Georgia’s hearts with a thrilling Group F victory in Dortmund. Right-back Mert Muldur gave Turkey the lead in the 25th minute but seven minutes later, Georges Mikautadze scored Georgia’s first goal in a major tournament. Guler’s 65th minute strike saw Turkey regain the lead but the Georgians tested them until the final whistle.
