Hansi Flick signs contract extension at Barcelona

Hansi Flick has been rewarded for an outstanding first campaign with Barcelona by signing a contract extension until 2027. Flick, a treble-winning coach with Bayern Munich who signed for the club last year on a two-year deal, arrived in Barcelona eager to redeem himself after he was sacked by Germany in September 2023. The German was appointed as head coach prior to the 2024-25 season and has been rewarded for a campaign that has yield LaLiga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana success.

Francesco Farioli leaves Ajax following title race implosion

Francesco Farioli has stepped down as Ajax head coach after only a year in charge of the Amsterdam club. Farioli was visibly emotional following his sides 2-0 win over Twente on Sunday which was not enough to win clinch Eredivisie title for the Amsterdam side. Ajax had a nine point lead at one point but their form in April and May saw the title slip from their hands. The 36 year old Italian had signed a three year deal last summer but has cited differences with the club as the reason for this premature departure.

Crystal Palace stun Manchester City to win FA Cup

Crystal Palace won the first major trophy in the club’s history with victory against Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley. Eberechi Eze was Palace’s hero when he crowned a superb counter-attack by sweeping home Daniel Munoz’s cross after 16 minutes. City, meanwhile, endured a day of total frustration as they failed to win a trophy in a season for the first time since manager Pep Guardiola’s first campaign in charge in 2016-17.

Yamal fires Barca to derby victory securing La Liga title

Barcelona have been crowned Spanish champions for a 28th time after a 2-0 victory over Espanyol on Thursday evening. The win means Barça have an unassailable lead at the top of La Liga. They are seven points clear of Real Madrid with only two games left to play. Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal scored early in the second half and teed up substitute Fermin Lopez who added a late second to secure the league title.
