Piastri takes championship lead with victory in Saudi Arabia

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri took his third win of the year and with it the world championship lead at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Piastri benefited from a penalty for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who finished second while Ferrari recorded their first podium finish of the season through Charles Leclerc. McLaren’s Lando Norris recovered from 10th place on the grid after his crash in qualifying to finish fourth but sees his teammate leapfrog him in the standings.

Championship leader Lando Norris crashed out of qualifying at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and will start 10th as Max Verstappen beat the Briton’s McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri to pole position. Verstappen in his Red Bull pipped Piastri by 0.01 seconds to take his second pole position of the year in scintillating style.

Saudi Arabia confirmed as 2034 FIFA World Cup hosts

The 2034 men’s football World Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia, while Spain, Portugal and Morocco will be joint hosts for the 2030 tournament, world governing body Fifa has confirmed. Three matches in the 2030 tournament will also be held in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay to mark 100 years of the competition. The hosts for both World Cups were confirmed at Wednesday’s Extraordinary Fifa Congress meeting following a vote.
