The video assistant referee for the Manchester derby, Matt Donohue, and his assistant VAR, Blake Antrobus, have not been appointed for this weekend’s Premier League games. The decision was made by the Premier League refereeing body Pro Ref’s chief refereeing officer Howard Webb and the management team.

Erling Haaland’s goal helped Manchester City win a highly controversial Manchester derby at rivals Manchester United despite playing with 10 men for more than 70 minutes. City midfielder Phil Foden was shown a straight red card for kicking out at Bruno Fernandes however City scored the game’s only goal on the break in the 60th minute when Haaland tapped in Josko Gvardiol’s low, deflected cross at the back post.

Nottingham Forest have sacked their global head of football, Edu Gaspar, after just over a year at the club. The former Arsenal midfielder was brought in ahead of last season with a broad remit covering recruitment, squad strategy, player development and performance. However, his time at the City Ground proved brief and troubled. It is understood that Edu has been absent from the club since the early months of this year.

Arsenal have completed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United on a four-year deal. The 28-year-old midfielder joins the Gunners for a fee understood to be £75m (€88m) and the contract includes a further one-year option. Guimaraes arrived at Newcastle in January 2022 and leaves the club after making 195 appearances, scoring 31 goals along the way.

Leeds United have signed goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City in a club-record deal. The deal is worth an initial £40m plus add-ons, surpassing the £35.5m paid for Georginio Rutter Hoffenheim in January 2023. Trafford has joined Leeds on a five-year contract and becomes the third permanent signing of the summer at Elland Road after Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic.
