The football world has been left devastated by the death of the Liverpool and Portugal star Diogo Jota in a car accident in north-western Spain. Keith Andrews says Brentford’s potential is “massive” after he was appointed as their new head coach on a three-year deal following Thomas Frank’s departure to Tottenham. Former Wolves midfielder Andrews, 44, joined the Bees last summer to work under Frank as the club’s set-piece coach. Having previously been on the coaching staff with Sheffield United, MK Dons and the Republic of Ireland, Andrews’ promotion to the top job is the Irishman’s first step into management.

Tottenham have appointed Brentford boss Thomas Frank as their head coach on a deal until 2028. The 51-year-old Dane replaces Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked earlier this month despite leading Spurs to victory in the Europa League final in May. Frank spent seven years in charge of Brentford, guiding the club from the Championship to the Premier League in 2021.

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders for an initial fee of £46.5m on a five-year contract. The Netherlands international is Pep Guardiola’s fourth summer signing with Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki having also joined. United States head coach Mauricio Pochettino has ruled himself out the running to replace Ange Postecoglou, saying a return to Tottenham at this point is “not realistic”. Postecoglou, 59, was sacked on Friday, despite leading the club to their first piece of silverware in 17 years with victory in the Europa League. Pochettino, whose five-year stay at the club came to an end in November 2019, has been linked with a return to Tottenham.
