Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala scored as Euro 2024 hosts Germany reached the quarter-finals by beating Denmark in a game that was interrupted by a spectacular storm. The last-16 tussle at Borussia Dortmund’s Westfalenstadion was suspended for around 20 minutes towards the end of the first half, as lightning lit up the sky and the pitch was soaked by hail and heavy rain.

A masked Kylian Mbappe scored his first-ever Euros goal but France were held to a draw by an already-eliminated Poland to finish second in Group D. France needed all three points in order to seal top spot, but Robert Lewandowski’s 79th-minute penalty cancelled out Mbappe’s spot-kick 11 minutes into the second half. The result places France into a much tricker side of the draw as they seek a third European crown.

Portugal into last 16 with facile win over Turkey

Portugal booked their place in the last 16 as group winners at Euro 2024 following a routine victory over Turkey in Dortmund. Bernardo Silva opened the scoring midway through the first half, striking first time past goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. A calamitous own goal doubled Portugal’s lead before the break with Bruno Fernandes putting the icing on the cake after the restart.

Arda Güler inspires Turkey to victory over spirited Georgia

Teenager Arda Guler scored on his European Championship debut as Turkey broke Georgia’s hearts with a thrilling Group F victory in Dortmund. Right-back Mert Muldur gave Turkey the lead in the 25th minute but seven minutes later, Georges Mikautadze scored Georgia’s first goal in a major tournament. Guler’s 65th minute strike saw Turkey regain the lead but the Georgians tested them until the final whistle.

Italy survive early scare to see off Albania

Holders Italy battled back for a hard-earned opening victory after Albania scored the fastest goal in a European Championship match. Nedim Bajrami made history after just 23 seconds when he thrashed a strike into the top right corner but Albania’s jubilation was not long-lasting with Alessandro Bastoni and Nicolo Barella firing Italy to victory.
