Vegas maintains lead following round 2 at US PGA Championship

Venezuela’s Jhonattan Vegas maintained his lead at the US PGA Championship while Rory McIlroy and defending champion Xander Schauffele avoided early exits at Quail Hollow. Vegas carded a one-under 70 in his second round to move to eight under par, two shots clear of England’s Matt Fitzpatrick, France’s Matthieu Pavon and Kim Si-woo of South Korea. The 40-year-old, who was out in the early wave, led by four on the 18th but he posted a double-bogey six to keep a congested chasing pack in close proximity.

Jhonattan Vegas takes early lead at Quail Hollow – PGA Championship

Masters champion Rory McIlroy ended 10 shots behind leader Jhonattan Vegas after round one of the US PGA Championship. Venezuela’s Vegas, 40, birdied five of his final six holes to set the pace at seven under and move two clear of American Ryan Gerard and Australian Cam Davis. Ryder Cup captains Luke Donald and Keegan Bradley both impressed at Quail Hollow in North Carolina.

McIlroy and Scheffler to take on Koepka and DeChambeau

Rory McIlroy has confirmed that he will partner world No 1 Scottie Scheffler in a made-for-TV match against LIV Golf stars Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka later this year. The match between two of the biggest names on the PGA Tour and two of the highest-profile LIV Golf players will be held in Las Vegas in mid-December, although the exact date, venue and format have yet to be announced.

Xander Schauffele wins The Open to claim second major title

Xander Schauffele held off the challenge of Justin Rose to win the 152nd Open Championship at the end of a captivating week at Royal Troon. The American hit a stunning bogey-free six-under 65 to finish on nine under, two clear of his playing partner Rose, who shot a 67 in a fascinating duel in breezy conditions. It is a second major title in three months for 30-year-old Schauffele, who becomes the first player to win The Open and US PGA Championship in the same year since Rory McIlroy in 2014.

Billy Horschel moves one clear as Lowry tumbles at The Open

Shane Lowry will go into the final round of The Open just three shots off the lead held by American Billy Horschel. Lowry he was bitterly disappointed to card a six-over 77 in brutal conditions. Horschel is one clear of a group of six players including former major champions Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele.
