Arsenal to face Manchester United in FA Cup third round

Arsenal will host Manchester United in a mouth-watering FA Cup third-round tie next month. The competition’s two most successful teams – the Gunners have won it 14 times compared to United’s 13 – will clash at the Emirates Stadium on the weekend of 11-12 January. Ruben Amorim’s team are the current champions while Arsenal last lifted the trophy in 2020.

Arsenal got back to winning ways in the Champions League with a commanding victory over Sporting at Estadio Jose Alvalade. Gabriel Martinelli tapped home from Jurrien Timber’s low cross as Mikel Arteta’s side went in front early on. They doubled the lead in similar fashion, Bukayo Saka getting in behind the Sporting defence and firing the ball across the box for Kai Havertz to prod in from close range.

Mohamed Salah scored a late equaliser as Liverpool came from behind twice to earn a point at title rivals Arsenal. Bukayo Saka had given the home side an early lead before Virgil Van Dijk headed Livepool level. Mikel Moreno rose highest from a set piece before the interval to restore the Gunners’ lead but Salah was the saviour once again to see the spoils shared.
