Arsenal have completed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United on a four-year deal. The 28-year-old midfielder joins the Gunners for a fee understood to be £75m (€88m) and the contract includes a further one-year option. Guimaraes arrived at Newcastle in January 2022 and leaves the club after making 195 appearances, scoring 31 goals along the way.

Manchester City have knocked back an initial offer from Barcelona for Rodri that is considered far too low. Barcelona’s initial offer – which Manchester City rejected – was worth in the region of £40m. City are seeking upwards of £60m for the 30-year-old midfielder, who has entered the final year of his deal. Barcelona are not giving up on Rodri by any means. Plans are in motion for another offer to go in at some point in coming days.

Leeds United have signed goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City in a club-record deal. The deal is worth an initial £40m plus add-ons, surpassing the £35.5m paid for Georginio Rutter Hoffenheim in January 2023. Trafford has joined Leeds on a five-year contract and becomes the third permanent signing of the summer at Elland Road after Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic.

Henderson. The 36-year-old joins on a free transfer having left Brentford by mutual consent, and has signed a two-year deal at Stamford Bridge. The Blues were keen to add experience to Xabi Alonso’s squad this summer and have now brought in Henderson and Danny Welbeck, 35, in the same window.

Chelsea have signed Brighton’s veteran striker Danny Welbeck in a deal worth a reported £5m. Welbeck has agreed a two-year contract and will link up with Xabi Alonso’s squad on their pre-season tour. The 35-year-old’s move to Stamford Bridge is a break from Chelsea’s policy of signing younger players with the potential to be developed. It is the first time they have paid a transfer fee for a player over the age of 26 since they signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona in 2022 when the striker was 33.
