Newcastle United and manager Steve Bruce have parted ways by mutual consent in the wake of the club’s takeover by a Saudi investment group. Bruce was not in the new owners’ long term plans and with the club currently 19th in the league his two year reign has ended.

Cole Palmer grabbed his first Champions League goal as Manchester City produced a scintillating attacking display to beat Club Brugge 5-1 at the Jan Breydel Stadium. A Riyad Mahrez brace and goals from Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker completed the rout.

England handed stadium ban for fan trouble at Euro 2020 final

England have been ordered to play their next UEFA competition game behind closed doors – with one more game suspended – after crowd trouble inside and outside Wembley Stadium at this summer’s Euro 2020 final. There were serious disturbances when England played Italy as ticketless fans fought with stewards and police officers and forced their way into the stadium.
