Leeds claimed their first Premier League win at home since the opening day of the season to pile on the problems for dismal West Ham. The result lifted Daniel Farke’s men up to 13th in the table, while the visitors remain second bottom after a seventh loss in nine league games. Brenden Aaronson set the hosts on their way inside three minutes and by the time Joe Rodon headed a second with just over 14 minutes on the clock, it was the earliest Leeds had held a two-goal advantage in the English top flight since April 2004.

Harry Maguire’s late header secured Manchester United’s first win at Anfield in nearly a decade and inflicted Liverpool’s fourth successive defeat. Cody Gakpo’s strike with 12 minutes left looked it would end Liverpool’s losing streak, only for Maguire to head beyond Liverpool keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili six minutes from time. The Republic of Ireland breathed new life into their World Cup qualifying campaign with a much-needed win over 10-man Armenia at Aviva Stadium. Aided by Armenia captain Tigran Barseghyan’s red card for aiming a headbutt at Finn Azaz early in the second half, the hosts overcame a sluggish start and scored the only goal through Evan Ferguson.

Portugal strike late to break Irish hearts

Ireland’s woes continued in Portugal as an injury-time goal proved the difference as Heimir Hallgrimsson’s side were narrowly edged out in Lisbon, losing 1-0 at the Jose Alvalade Stadium. A brave and battling performance eventually counted for nothing as the home side, once again, broke Irish hearts in added time thanks to Ruben Neves’ powerful header.
