Chris Wood’s second-half penalty gave Nottingham Forest the advantage in their all-English Europa League semi-final with Aston Villa. The New Zealand striker emphatically converted from 12 yards to put Forest just 90 minutes away from a first European final in 46 years as they took a 1-0 first-leg lead. But they will know there is still work to do if they want to try and follow in the footsteps of Brian Clough’s side which won back-to-back European Cups in 1979 and 1980.

Arsenal’s bid to reach their first Champions League final in 20 years hangs in the balance after a controversial 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in Spain. Viktor Gyokeres fired Arsenal into the lead with a penalty however, Julian Alvarez also scored from the spot early in the second half. Paris St-Germain came out on top in a nine-goal thriller against Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes to take a slim advantage in their Champions League semi-final. Five goals were scored in a breathless first half before the mayhem continued in the second period when holders PSG began to pull away, opening up a three-goal lead. But Bayern, already crowned Bundesliga champions and pushing for a Treble, cut the deficit to one to set up a scintillating second leg in Munich.

Fernández heads Chelsea past Leeds into FA Cup final

Chelsea immediately returned to winning ways after Liam Rosenior’s exit, booking a FA Cup final clash with Man City with a 1-0 victory over Leeds at Wembley. Typically, it was Enzo Fernandez – left out for two games this month by Rosenior after comments about a potential summer move away from Chelsea – who scored the only goal of the game as the Blues booked their first FA Cup final date since 2022.
