Romania and Slovakia both progress after fiery draw

Romania finished top of Group E as they and Slovakia reached the last 16 at Euro 2024 with an entertaining draw in Frankfurt. Ondrej Duda gave Slovakia a 24th-minute lead when got in behind the Romanian defence to power in a header from Juraj Kucka’s pinpoint cross. Both sides showed plenty of attacking intent, and Romania equalised before half-time as Razvan Marin fired a ferocious penalty into the top corner after David Hancko fouled Ianis Hagi in the box.

Belgium stutter into last 16 despite draw with Ukraine

Belgium reached the knockout stages of Euro 2024 as group runners-up – but Ukraine exited the competition following their goalless draw in Stuttgart. England top Group C despite drab stalemate with Slovenia

England moved into Euro 2024’s last 16 at the top of Group C – but it was only achieved after another drab display with a draw against Slovenia in Cologne. Denmark progress after dull draw with Serbia

Serbia failed to put up a fight as they were knocked out of Euro 2024 following a draw which saw Denmark progress. Neither side produced a performance that reflected their potential, but Denmark were the better team in a forgettable encounter in Munich. Austria produced a hugely impressive performance that will make others take notice at Euro 2024 as they beat the Netherlands to progress to the last 16 as Group D winners thanks to a late strike from Marcel Sabitzer. The Netherlands had already guaranteed their progression to the last 16 but they will now go through as one of the best third-placed sides, with France second.
