Wet roads wreaked havoc for the GC riders as towering Dutchman Daan Hoole (Lidl-Trek) caused an upset with victory in the Stage 10 individual time trial between Lucca and Pisa. Primoz Roglic was the big winner as he leapt back into the top five as Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) held onto pink in heavy rain. The Mexican now leads team-mate Juan Ayuso by 25 seconds.

Francesco Farioli leaves Ajax following title race implosion

Francesco Farioli has stepped down as Ajax head coach after only a year in charge of the Amsterdam club. Farioli was visibly emotional following his sides 2-0 win over Twente on Sunday which was not enough to win clinch Eredivisie title for the Amsterdam side. Ajax had a nine point lead at one point but their form in April and May saw the title slip from their hands. The 36 year old Italian had signed a three year deal last summer but has cited differences with the club as the reason for this premature departure.

Scheffler survives major scare to win PGA Championship

An emotional Scottie Scheffler held off the rejuvenated Jon Rahm to convert his 54-hole lead into a maiden US PGA Championship title. While the winning margin of five strokes suggests his third major was a formality, a different story threatened to unfold at Quail Hollow. World number one Scheffler began three shots ahead and five clear of Rahm, but it became a two-way duel for the Wanamaker Trophy.

Verstappen storms to victory at Imola ahead of McLaren duo

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took a dominant victory in the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix founded on an audacious overtaking move on the first lap. The four-time champion passed pole-sitter Oscar Piastri’s McLaren around the outside of the first chicane after the start and controlled the race from there. A late safety car closed the field up and put the McLarens of Piastri and Lando Norris on Verstappen’s tail. But a consummate restart from Verstappen allowed him to break free while Norris fought for three laps before finally passing his teammate to take second.
