AS Roma have appointed former Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini as their new manager on a three-year contract. Gasperini, who guided Atalanta to third in Italy’s Serie A and qualification for the Champions League this season, replaces Claudio Ranieri. The Italian spent nine successful years in Bergamo but opted for a “new challenge” taking up the reins at the Stadio Olimpico.

Tottenham have sacked Ange Postecoglou as their manager, describing it as “one of the toughest decisions we have had to make”, and are considering whether to replace him with Brentford’s Thomas Frank, who has a £10m release clause. Marco Silva of Fulham is also in the running. Postecoglou led Spurs to Europa League glory on 21 May, beating Manchester United in the final in Bilbao to end a 17-year trophy drought.

Liverpool have told Barcelona that Luis Díaz is not for sale after rejecting the Spanish champions’ first approach for the Colombia international. Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, contacted Liverpool officials on Wednesday to discuss the possible transfer of Díaz, who also has interest from the Saudi Pro League. However, Deco was informed Liverpool have no intention of selling the 28-year-old.

Chelsea have strengthened their attack by completing the £30m signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich. The club were determined to bring in a new striker this summer and have moved swiftly to secure one of their top targets. Delap, who has signed a six-year deal, chose to join Chelsea after receiving pitches from Everton, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United.

Inter Milan and manager Simone Inzaghi have parted company “by mutual agreement” three days after their Champions League final thrashing by Paris St-Germain. The 49-year-old, who was appointed by the Serie A club in 2021, has been heavily linked with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. “The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a four-year journey, during which I gave everything,” said Inzaghi, who won six trophies with Inter.
