France’s Julian Alaphilippe swapped the rainbow bands for the yellow jersey after winning a dramatic opening stage of the Tour de France in swashbuckling style. The world champion attacked two kilometres from the finish to take a brilliant solo win in Landerneau after two huge pile-ups marred the finale of a tough curtain raiser in Brittany, with four-time winner Chris Froome hitting the deck.

Max Verstappen on pole ahead of Styrian GP

Red Bull’s Max Verstapen will start from pole position tomorrow at the Styrian Grand Prix ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and McLaren’s Lando Norris. Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez qualified fourth at the Red Bull Ring.

Turkish Grand Prix rejoins 2021 F1 Calendar

The Turkish Grand Prix has been added once again to the 2021 Formula 1 race calendar replacing the Singapore Grand Prix. The Turkish Grand Prix had previously been added to the calendar but was then removed due to Covid-19 travel restrictions however it will now host round 16 of the championship.

UEFA abolish away goals rule for club competitions

The away goals rule will be scrapped from all UEFA club competitions from the start of the 2021-22 season, the governing body has confirmed. The rule has been part of UEFA competitions since it was introduced in 1965 and was applied to determine the winner of a two-legged knockout tie in cases where the two teams had scored the same number of goals on aggregate over the two matches.
