Williams driver Alex Albon suffered respiratory failure and was treated in intensive care following appendix surgery at the weekend. The 26-year-old had an operation on Saturday but suffered “post-operative anaesthetic complications” and was put on a ventilator.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen spoiled the anniversary party at Monza as he saw off Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to win the Italian Grand Prix. Pole sitter Leclerc was hoping to mark Ferrari’s 75th anniversary with victory on home soil but had to settle for second ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell.

The Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two have all been postponed, as well as the start of the new Women’s Super League season, and all non-League and grassroots fixtures.
