Luton Town completed their journey from non-league to Premier League as they beat Coventry City 6-5 on penalties to win the Championship play-off final at Wembley. Gustavo Hamer equalised for Coventry to cancel out a first-half strike from Jordan Clark as the game finished in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.

The decisive time trial at the 2023 Giro d’Italia was won by Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) and his brilliant ride was enough to take the leader’s pink jersey off the shoulders of Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers). It was heartbreaking for Thomas, but Roglic overcame a dropped chain up the punishing climb of the individual time trial to claim the win.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen grabbed pole from Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso in a gripping qualifying session at the Monaco Grand Prix. Alonso displaced Verstappen at the top of the timesheets with his final lap. The Dutchman was more than 0.2 seconds behind after the first two sectors of his last attempt but a stunning final few corners saw him take pole position by 0.084secs.

The 2023 Giro d’Italia will be decided by an uphill 18.6km individual time trial on Saturday, with Geraint Thomas holding a 26-second advantage over Primoz Roglic. Thomas looked the strongest out of the GC big-hitters in Stage 19 but saw Roglic claw back three seconds with a lightning surge atop Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Santiago Buitrago took the spoils ahead of the ubiquitous Derek Gee.
