Verstappen extends championship lead with Sprint victory in Austria

Max Verstappen took a dominant win in the sprint race at the Austrian Grand Prix after a first-lap squabble with team-mate Sergio Perez. In wet conditions, Perez took the lead from Verstappen at the first corner and then edged the world champion onto the grass after the corner. But Verstappen made a pass stick out of Turn Four and proceeded to motor away to another win.

Max Verstappen fended off a challenge from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to take pole position at the Austrian Grand Prix. Verstappen was just 0.048 seconds clear of Leclerc as Carlos Sainz made it a Ferrari two-three with Lando Norris fourth in the upgraded McLaren.

Johnny Sexton to face EPCR disciplinary hearing over Champions Cup conduct

The EPCR have confirmed that Ireland captain Johnny Sexton will appear before a disciplinary committee next month, in relation to his conduct after the Champions Cup final at the Aviva Stadium in May. Misconduct complaints were brought against Sexton and Leinster by tournament organisers regarding his behaviour towards the match officials immediately after full-time in the final, which Leinster lost 27-26 to La Rochelle.

Arsenal sign Chelsea’s Kai Havertz for £65m

Arsenal have signed Germany forward Kai Havertz from Chelsea for £65m. The 24-year-old has signed a “long-term deal” at Emirates Stadium, three years after joining the Blues from Bayer Leverkusen for £71m. The fee for Havertz, who scored nine goals for the Blues last season, could rise with add-ons.

Manchester City sign Mateo Kovačić from Chelsea

Manchester City have signed Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea for an initial £25m. The deal for the 29-year-old is also worth a possible £5m in add-ons and he has signed a four-year contract. Kovacic is City’s first signing of the summer after their treble winning season.
