The 35-year-old Australian has been dropped with six races to go because Red Bull management have been unconvinced by his performances. Christian Eriksen was hero and villain for Manchester United as Erik ten Hag’s men stumbled at the start of their Europa League campaign, being held to a draw by their Dutch manager’s boyhood club Twente. Eriksen gave United a first-half lead with a superb strike from inside the penalty area. However, against a dogged Twente outfit, Eriksen was punished when he allowed himself to be caught in possession by Sam Lammers just outside the United box.

Concerns over the future of San Siro mean it will not host the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League final. The governing body has stripped the stadium of the rights to stage the game, as its future remains up in the air. UEFA are worried “the Municipality of Milano could not guarantee that the San Siro and its surroundings would not be affected by refurbishments” and have re-opened the bidding process.

John Stones scrambled home an equaliser seconds from time amid chaos and controversy to deny Arsenal a famous victory against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium. McLaren’s Lando Norris dominated the Singapore Grand Prix to take a further chunk out of Max Verstappen’s advantage in the championship. Verstappen, who finished a distant second in his Red Bull, is now 52 points ahead of the Briton with six races remaining. Norris’ McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri finished third from fifth on the grid, passing both Mercedes drivers on track after a later pit stop.
