Cristiano Ronaldo scored a fine double as a classy Portugal side signed off before Euro 2024 by comfortably beating the Republic of Ireland in Aveiro. Joao Felix opened the scoring for a much-changed Portugal side in the first half, curling home after the hosts caught the Republic out with a short corner. Ronaldo then fired an unstoppable effort into the top corner early in the second half and doubled his tally with a sweeping finish on the hour mark.

Frenkie de Jong ruled out of Euro 2024 for the Netherland

FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has been ruled out of Euro 2024 with the Netherlands due to injury. De Jong hasn’t played since being stretchered off in El Clasico in April but had linked up with the national team ahead of the European Championship. Yet it’s now been confirmed that De Jong won’t fly out to Germany with the squad for the tournament and will instead return to Barcelona for further treatment.

Verstappen holds off Norris to win dramatic wet/dry Canadian GP

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won a gripping wet-dry Canadian Grand Prix that developed into a five-car battle for the lead over the final 10 laps. Verstappen expertly managed a restart after a safety-car period with 11 laps to go to bolt into a decisive lead while McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri fought with the Mercedes of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton behind him. Verstappen pulled out nearly two seconds in one lap and controlled the race to the end from there.
