Carlos Sainz took a sensational pole position for the Mexico City Grand Prix by beating title protagonists Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Sainz took his first pole for over a year with two laps that were good enough for pole as Verstappen rescued his qualifying after his first lap in Q3 was deleted for track limits. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc will lineup P4 ahead of the Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.

Chelsea made it two wins from two in the UEFA Conference League as they beat Greek Super League side Panathinaikos 4-1. Enzo Maresca’s Blues shot to the top of the league phase table as a result, and they have now scored four goals or more in five games in all competitions so far this season. FC Barcelona captain Raphinha scored a hat-trick to lead them to a commanding 4-1 home victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, ending a near decade-long winless run against the German powerhouses. The Brazilian winger gave Barca the lead inside the opening minute but the Catalans were pegged back by Harry Kane.
