Piastri on pole as McLaren lock out front row in Spain

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri put in a stunning lap to earn pole position from team-mate Lando Norris at the Spanish Grand Prix. The Australian beat Norris by 0.209 seconds, vaulting himself ahead of the Briton – who had been faster on the first runs in final qualifying but made an error on his last lap. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was third fastest, 0.302secs slower than Piastri.

Simon Yates seizes Pink Jersey as Harper triumphs on stage 20 – Giro d’Italia

Simon Yates buried his demons on the Colle delle Finestre to all but win the 2025 Giro d’Italia in one of cycling’s most memorable turnarounds in Stage 20 at Sestriere. The Briton dropped rivals Isaac del Toro and Richard Carapaz on the climb where he lost the 2018 race before linking up with Visma-Lease a Bike team-mate Wout van Aert to secure the maglia rosa behind stage winner Chris Harper.

Nicolas Prodhomme climbs to claim stage 19 glory – Giro d’Italia

The Giro d’Italia will be decided on the Colle delle Finestre on Saturday, with just 43 seconds separating Isaac del Toro in the pink jersey and former champion Richard Carapaz. Del Toro extended his lead in the general classification on Stage 19, albeit by only two seconds courtesy of time bonuses for placing second on Friday’s Stage 19. Nicolas Prodhomme took a maiden Grand Tour win.

AC Milan appoint Massimiliano Allegri as new manager

Massimiliano Allegri was named AC Milan’s new coach on Friday, charged with restoring to glory the crisis-hit team that he won Serie A with nearly 15 years ago. Allegri replaces Sergio Conceicao, who was fired on Thursday after guiding Milan to an eighth-placed finish in Serie A that left the Rossoneri out of Europe.

AC Milan sack manager Sérgio Conceição

AC Milan have sacked coach Sergio Conceicao after just six months in charge of the Serie A club. Former manager Massimiliano Allegri – who spent four years in charge at San Siro between 2010 and 2014 – is reportedly set, external for a return. Conceicao, 50, was handed the job last December after the the sacking of Paulo Fonseca and signed an 18-month deal which included a break clause in June 2025 which has now been activated.
